Yes, I’m biased. And I’m okay with that. I guess I do need to preface this by saying she’s the cutest baby girl ever, in case Johnny ever gets wind of this (or until he can read)!

When life hands you lemons (i.e. the sickest I’ve been in ages)…we made HOT lemonade! (I was sick, after all…and nothing soothes quite like hot lemonade and honey.) And for the record, Johnny squeezed ALL of the lemons by himself. He’s quite the helper these days…and it’s fun to include him more in my work because he thinks it’s glorified playtime being able to use grown-up tools and equipment. Love it!

It’s such a rarity to have rain last a full day, let alone a whole week! We seized the opportunity…built a fort and had an indoor picnic. What fun!

So I’m playing major blog catch up here…been a hectic couple of weeks, starting with pouring rain that ceased all activity (remember, this is the desert), a sick Johnny and teething Lucy, a wedding that needed to be coordinated (my part-time job), ending with a very sick Mama and Lucy. We’re finally on the upswing of the sickness and I’m praying that we can get back to some sort of normal again (although I’m still not sure what ‘normal’ is around here yet!)

Just a few of my fave pics from the past couple of weeks:

The other day, I was enjoying a few quiet moments playing with Johnny while Lucy was napping. Until I heard a huge rumbling. I felt the earth shake. And I started wondering if my California earthquake days were haunting me again.

When I looked over the fence behind our house, we saw a most unusual site (and no, the train track is not the unusual part). We get sporadic trains behind our house that we’ve come to truly ignore (I could dedicate an entire post to this, but I won’t) but this one was quite different. It was a train being pulled by a truck with an excavator/claw/tractor riding on top and unloading railroad ties while the train/truck was moving (very slowly) along the tracks. Not sure what this will mean for our (mostly) peaceful existence, but to a 3-year old infatuated with construction vehicles, trains and trucks…it was a sight to see!!

My One-And-Only is 39 today! I found this website that will make a cool graphic out of text and randomize it, so here’s my tribute to my Husby. Love you – and Happy Birthday!!

We’re starting to notice and appreciate the vast differences in our two kids. Recently we dusted off the Johnny-Jump-Up for Lucy to try out. This apparatus (aptly named) was one of Johnny’s FAVORITE pastimes when he was her age, which was about 4 months old (side-by-side pics for comparison).

Two major differences from Johnny to Lucy: 1) Energy level (or lack thereof) and 2) 4 pounds heavier. Seriously. When we packed the jump-up away, it was at its heaviest setting for Johnny (around 9 months old he was 20 lbs) and for Lucy (at 4.5 months was 20 lbs) it’s dangerously close to being too low to the ground for her to even catch any air. But I don’t think it really matters. I don’t think she’ll be doing much jumping in it. She’d much rather just sit there and smile. And I’m okay with that. Really okay with that. (See previous post for explanation!)

When Johnny is especially rambunctious and having a hard time obeying, we set the timer for 3-5 minutes and tell him to J-U-M-P!

We all love this solution. He returns a much happier, more balanced and calmed-down version of himself.

Lucy’s learning to sit up, and Johnny’s willing to help her practice! (And can I just say he’s made incredible progress in 5 months time from not even wanting to touch her hand to this?!)
