I hesitate to even breathe a word of this in a blog post for fear that it will utterly jinx me, but I can’t help but bubble over with joy about what transpired today.
My precious Lucy has never been a great napper. And besides a short span between her 2nd and 3rd months of life, she’s never been great at sleeping for any stretch at night either. Since about mid-November, she’s been waking 3+ times a night, typically about midnight, 2 am, 4 am, and up for the day at 6 am (I don’t count anything before I go to bed, so technically she wakes up even more than that). Naps are more of the same…she usually takes two 30-minute naps, three if we’re lucky…and they all involve struggles that sometimes last longer than the actual nap itself! I kept rationalizing away the problem…we have company for a few days, she’s got the sniffles, she’s about ready to roll over, she’s sharing a room with Johnny, our schedule’s upset because of Christmas, then New Year’s, now our schedule is back to normal, she’s teething, she’s sick…you get the idea (that this could go on for-ev-er).
Last night was more of the same…she woke up at 9 pm (which I don’t really count since I was still awake) and then at 1:30 am…which normally signals the ‘every 2-hours’ waking pattern. So I was completely surprised to be awoken at 6 am not by Lucy, but by Johnny who had to use the bathroom. Lucy managed to sleep until 6:45. From 1:30 – 6:45 and not wake up?!
If that weren’t enough, she took a morning nap today that lasted 1.5 hours and an afternoon nap (with Johnny) that lasted 2.5 hours…Without. Any. Struggles.
I am speechless.
(Well, not really, since I’m blogging about it…but you know what I mean!)
I sincerely hope and pray that this is the start of a new sleep pattern for her (and subsequently me). And even if this is just a fluke (or I just jinxed myself) I’m glad I’m blogging about it…’cause it gives me hope that someday we’ll sleep again. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
[Evidence that she doesn't need to wake up at night...at least to eat. Check out those THIGHS!!]

Oh man…and here I thought she was sleeping well! I told John that it stunk that Abby was OLDER than Lucy and Lucy was sleeping so well when Abby was NOT. I completely feel for you, but I’m glad that this might be a new leaf she’s turning over, so to speak, and that you’ll get some rest! She’s so cute…and in her Gro Babies!

Yea for sleeping through the night. I was struggling with some of my kids like that when they were younger. Once they could sleep that like once I knew they could do it and just stopped getting up with them. Sometimes Josh would have to hold me down in bed to keep from getting up the first night or two. But once we made it through a couple of nights they knew I wasn’t coming and they starting sleeping through the nights. I know all kids are different and I don’t know if it would work for you but it might be worth a try. Hopefully she will continue to sleep through the night so you can get some much needed rest!!!

Bwahahahahahhaa, those thighs! The way she’s pointing her toes, that photo is so awesome!
As to sleeping – ugh. Hugs. Love. Ugh. I remember thinking once, “this is what total exhaustion feels like” and my kids were fairly good sleepers.
Whoooot! May she be on a new schedule!

what a cutie! And YEAH for sleep!!! I hope it has continued on for you. I know how frustrating that can be. It does take some kids longer than others, unfortunately, to get into a pattern. Hopefully she is there! Hang in there.
